Lead - How Should I Manage The Rating Temperature?

What is the Rating Temperature?
Rating Temperature is a quick visual indicator that helps you prioritise Leads based on their likelihood to convert.
It reflects how ready a Lead is to move forward—whether they’re cold, warm, or hot—and appears as an icon like:
❄️ Cold – Early stage, low engagement
☀️ Warm – Some interest or engagement shown
🔥 Hot – Strong signals of readiness to buy
Why Does It Matter?
Managing your Rating Temperature helps you:
Focus your time on the most promising leads
Avoid wasting effort on unqualified or low-intent contacts
Improve conversion rates and sales efficiency
Report accurately on pipeline quality
How Should I Set the Temperature?
Use the Rating picklist on the Lead to choose a temperature based on what you know:
Temperature | Use When… |
|---|---|
❄️ Cold | The Lead is unresponsive or just browsing. No urgency, unclear fit, or missing key information. |
☀️ Warm | You’ve had a conversation, and there’s some intent or alignment. They may be evaluating options. |
🔥 Hot | The Lead has budget, a clear problem, and is actively seeking a solution. You should prioritise this Lead. |
Make sure you also update fields like Buying Readiness, Problem Identified, and Budget Confirmed to support accurate ratings.
Best Practices
Update the Rating regularly — Lead status can change quickly based on new conversations.
Use Temperature + Completeness together — A 🔥 Hot lead with incomplete data might still be risky.
Don't leave it blank — Defaulting to “No Rating” limits your visibility across the pipeline.
Be honest — Overstating a Lead’s temperature inflates your pipeline and skews reports.
